Ducks in the park
A confusing subway ride got me to central park the other day. I planned to visit the enormous park some day, but this outing came as a surprise. However, seeing it so close, I couldn't resist a little round before I headed back to where I originally had to go.
Walking around a section of the park, I reached a well populated but rather dirty duck pond. I was under the impression that this was the same duck pond Holden Caulfield keeps mentioning in 'The Catcher in the Rye' (wondering where all the ducks fly to in the winter), but Google says otherwise. Either way, it was nice to see a green contrast to all the concrete I am usually surrounded by.
Everyone seemed to disregard the 'Do Not Feed' sign and people with little kids merrily threw bread crumbs towards the well fed wildlife. Aren't ducks the best birds? My college friends will certainly agree. They are, however, a smelly bunch. I was quick with the pictures.
Oh I bet it was shocking to stumble on Central Park! But a good shocking. I don't live in New York; but I'm there often. Even just visiting, I make frequent trips to the park just to escape to some real landscape and a bit of fresh air. It's amazing how quiet it seems in the middle of the park. Like you're in another world entirely.

I agree, after the hustle bustle of the city (which also has its charm), it's amazing to find an oasis of calm where one has the option to just sit and stare at the greenery. :)
